The Awarding Map

The Awarding Map resource captures practical tools, insights and approaches to support providers in reducing their degree-awarding gaps.
The degree-awarding gap refers to the difference in awards made to students with different personal characteristics. In the higher education sector, attention predominantly focuses on the proportion of students awarded a ‘good’ (first or upper-second class) undergraduate degree.
Significant awarding gaps exist and persist for underrepresented groups across UK higher education, primarily impacting students from different ethnic or socioeconomic backgrounds, though gaps can also be present for mature students and/or students with reported disabilities.
This resource identifies sets of guidance materials on supporting students through all stages of their studies. We have created a route map to highlight different mechanisms that can be used to enact positive change for the most affected student groups at four key stages:
